Review of Vocation of Violence

This series of edgy mysteries features Fiona Mahoney whose job is to clean up after dead bodies.  She cleans for both sides of the law which means she works with cops and criminals.  She is drawn to men on both sides of the laws which means you might find yourself cheering for a character of dubious moral character.

In A Vocation of Violence, Fiona must find a murderer in order to protect a friend from her past.   Fiona’s friends and acquaintances include a detective, an organized crime boss, an assassin and a writer.  All will play important roles that lead Fiona to clues and danger.

Jack the Ripper has been a main character in the previous two books, and though, always present in Fiona’s mind, was not as present in this story.  Or was he?  We really don’t know his identity….

Read this series in order to get the most out of each book.  The Fiona Mahoney Mysteries are sooo good!!  They are dark, intriguing, twisty, and beautifully written! Through Booksprout, the publisher provided a copy of this book.  My review is my honest opinion.

About Vocation of Violence by Kerrigan Byrne

No one in London knows what befell Fiona’s family back in Ireland.

At least, no one left alive.

That is until her late brother’s best mate arrives in the city for the bareknuckle bout of the century. Blood is spilled in the ring before the fight, and when Fiona is hired to clean it up, she finds that the boy from her past is now a dangerous man who may have answers she’d lost all hope of finding.

But while she frantically tries to keep his neck from a noose, it becomes apparent that her own is at risk.
