Review of ‘Twas The Fight Before Christmas
‘Twas the Fight Before Christmas is a short story in the new anthology Festive Fates. I am reviewing Pauline Baird Jones contribution.
In this sweet short story, Ms. Jones revisits some of my favorite characters from the Project Enterprise galaxy. Starting with Doc, the brainy heroine of Girl Gone Nova which was the first Pauline Baird Jone book I read 10 years ago! It is hard to believe it has been that long, but Goodreads tells me it is true. Though it was the first book from this author for me, it is actually the second book in the series, but reading these two in order in not necessary.
To enjoy ‘Twas the Fight Before Christmas, it would be helpful to have read a few of the books in the series, since several favorite characters make appearances. Doc is assisted in this adventure by her husband Hel and his kids and mother. The action takes place at a Christmas gathering organized by Doc’s brilliant brother Robert and his lovely quirky wife Emily (Steamrolled) and also attended by other important Project Enterprise personnel.
The plot is uncomplicated. The party is invaded by bad guys and a room full of heroines and heroes fight them off. The charm is in the characters who are alternatively trying to enjoy the party, get along with inlaws, and wear ugly sweaters all while trying to keep the galaxy safe. It was way too short! But absolutely delightful!
Thanks to the author for providing a copy of her short story. My review is my honest opinion.
