Today I am sharing the books I am currently reading or listening to. If you feel so inclined, do the same by posting in the comments at the end.
Clicking on the book covers below will take you to Amazon. Use of these links supports this blog and is very much appreciated. I also recommended checking with your library (if you want to save some $$$).
On my Kindle, I am have Mr. Darcy’s Enchantment by Abigail Reynolds. You’ve probably guessed this is yet another variation on Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. I’m barely into chapter 2, so it is too soon to know if I will like it. It begins a bit into the original story when Elizabeth Bennet is visiting her newly married friend Charlotte. I’m looking forward to seeing where this story goes.
About Mr. Darcy’s Enchantment
Fitzwilliam Darcy is a powerful magician who controls fire, water, and wind. What he cannot control is his growing feelings for Miss Elizabeth Bennet.
Elizabeth’s sentiments towards Darcy are quite different. She detests his arrogance, and she fears he will expose her use of forbidden magic – forbidden to women, that is. He is the last man in the world she would choose to help her on a difficult and dangerous task.
But when a magical war looms between the land of Faerie and their world, a Lord of Faerie demands that Darcy and Elizabeth serve together as his emissaries to make peace with the other mortals. That mission throws them into the middle of a chaotic power struggle between magicians whose power dwarfs their own, and everything Elizabeth has ever believed about her family, her friends, and her enemies will be called into question.
My current audiobook is Lady Helena Investigates by Jane Steen. This historical mystery is the first in the Scott-DeQuincy Mysteries. I’m not sure I am liking this narration. I also have the e-book, so I may switch. I’ll stay with it for a little while longer. BTW, I noticed that the second book in this series is currently on sale for $0.00!
About Lady Helena Investigates
1881, Sussex. With a drowned husband—the second love lost—an overbearing family, no longed-for child, and the responsibility of a huge baroque mansion, it’s not surprising Lady Helena Whitcombe is overwhelmed. When attractive, mysterious, French physician Armand Fortier disturbs her first weeks of mourning with his theory of murder, Helena’s reluctant and ineffective attempts at investigation are hardly life-changing—until the resulting revival in her long-abandoned herbalist studies bring her into confrontation with her past and her family’s.
Can Lady Helena survive bereavement the second time around? Can she stand up to her six siblings’ assumption of the right to control her new life as a widow? And what role will Fortier—who, as a physician, is a most unsuitable companion for an earl’s daughter—play in her investigations?
Every family has its secrets. The Scott-De Quincy family has more than most.
