Whisky and GlassFollowing on the heels of St. Patrick’s Day, is International Whisk(e)y Day.  I admit, if I had not signed up to get e-mails from a nearby whiskey pub (Grane), I would not know this day existed.  But hey, I do now, so I  think it should be recognized and celebrated.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

International Whisk(e)y Day was first announced in 2008 and falls on March 27th each year.  The name is used with the parenthesis to indicate support of Scottish, Canadian, and Japanese whiskies (no e) as well as Irish and American whiskeys (full of e).  The day publicly supports Parkinsons Disease research in addition to enjoying Whiskey.

International Whiskey Day was launched in 2009 at the Whiskey Day Festival in the Northern Netherlands in the presence of several whisk(e)y writers.  The event was created in honor of the March 27 birthday of British writer Michael Jackson.

Participants are encouraged to raise one up on the day and drink whiskey for the love of the drink as well as to celebrate Michael’s life. Others participate via social media using the #whiskyday2015 hashtag.  Taken from the International Whisk(e)y day’s website, “International Whisk(e)y Day is a non-profit celebration of whisk(e)y which receives no funding and is run entirely by the passion of whisk(e)y fans from around the world. So if you love whisk(e)y and want to help spread the word, then go ahead and tell someone about it.”

There is also a World Wisk(e)y Day and a National Bourbon Day, but these fall on other days in other months, so whiskey lovers are free to celebrate all those days.

Noble SecretsI’ve been enjoying enjoying Cecilia Dominic’s Aether Psychics series.  You will find steampunk adventure, mystery and romance in Books 1 and 2: Eros Element and Light Fantastique.  I loved them both and reviewed them for Smart Girls Love SciFi Romance.

Ms. Dominic has just released Noble Secrets which is a prequel novella to the series.

Here is a blurb for Noble Secrets:  After tragedy hits and danger moves in, Pauline Donahue flees London, searching for sanctuary and a way to start over. A job at a small university provides the escape she needs. Keeping recalcitrant professor Edward Bailey on task after a shattered heart renders him broken and destroyed becomes her daily routine. But when the same vicious man from her past sets his malicious sights on Pauline, her safe haven comes crashing down.

Duke of Waltham, Christopher Bailey, never counted on the gentle commoner, Miss Donahue, to save his brother–and himself–from broken pasts and a lifetime of mistakes. But she does just that. As their love blossoms, danger closes in, threatening Pauline and Christopher’s lives. Together, they are forced to face their biggest fears, revealing secrets that could ruin them both.

There will be a recommended reading post about Noble Secrets over at Smart Girls Love SciFi Romance on Monday.  I hope you will check it out!

By the way, book 3 in the Aether Psychics series is coming soon. Aether Spirit is due out on May 31.  More to come!

Tea at 2,000 Feet by Eric Fan

Art available at Society 6.

This looks like a pleasant social outing.  The wind is calm (hair and hats are in place).  There is tea.  And there is a giant mechanical whale sailing through the clouds.

In A Hero for the Empire by Christine Wescott, there is no sailing through clouds.  But there is a lot of flying through space.  There is coffee instead of tea.  And no whale (at least not as far as I have read).  There is a telepathic cat!  How cool is that?

That is what I am reading this weekend.

What are you reading?
