I am pleased to have Cara Bristol here today to introduce us to her Breeder series, which is being released over the summer.  Having read book 1 (review here), I am happy to recommend this series!

*****************

By Cara Bristol

Breeder is a dark science fiction romance set in a world where love is viewed as weakness and ruthlessly stamped out. Culture and law (called “Protocol” in the books) enforce a caste system, decreeing men to be the natural, rightful rulers and women to be breeding slaves.

In this harsh, brutal misogynistic culture, one man and one woman violate all the rules by falling in love. Their forbidden love sets off a chain reaction that begins to unravel their world.

Each book of Breeder trilogy is a stand-alone romance between a different hero and heroine who find their HEA by the end of the book. There are no cliffhangers in the characters’ romances. However, what does continue from one book to the next and isn’t resolved until the final book is the story of the Parseon women and their struggle for equality.

Breeder, which introduces the misogynistic world, is probably the darkest of the novels. Terran is a bit lighter with moments of humor, and in Warrior, there is resolution. Breeder and Terran are currently available for purchase; Warrior will be published in August and will probably go on preorder in late July.

About Breeder

She was only meant to be the Alpha Commander’s slave…but she became his everything.

High Commander Dak, a ruling Alpha of planet Parseon, purchases Omra strictly as a breeder slave. He intends to impregnate her, produce a son, and hand her off to his anointed beta partner, Corren. Any infractions of the rules by her will be harshly punished.

But as Dak and Omra discover a sexual bliss banned by law, Dak begins to question the traditions and ways of his people, causing him to jeopardize his command and endanger the life of the woman he has come to love.

Dak has enemies, men who will not hesitate to exploit his fondness for Omra, and use it to portray him as unfit to rule as Alpha. Can he expose the rampant cruelty and corruption in Parseon culture… or will the protocol he’s spent his life defending, be the weapon used to destroy them and their love?

About Terran

She’s at the mercy of her alien abductor…

After a vicious attack on Earth, Tara Diehl flees earth for the dubious safety of planet Parseon. A vendor in the marketplace, she’s adjusted to the male-dominated culture better than most until she’s kidnapped by Alpha Commander Marlix, one of the five rulers of the planet. At first she’s terrified of her tall, muscled abductor, especially when he doesn’t hesitate to quell her struggle for freedom with a little corporal discipline. After all her methods and ploys to escape fail, she decides to seduce her way to freedom.

But out of subterfuge grows a true intimacy that cause Marlix and Tara to take a stand that drives Parseon to the brink of a civil war, which threatens their love and their lives.

Terran, the second book in the Breeder series, is a “capture” romance involving a domineering but hunky alien and a female with a bad dye job and an even worse attitude.

About Warrior

In a fight for freedom, will love become a casualty?

On an alien planet where women are chattel, Anika must perform her duty and become the breeder of an Alpha Commander. Secretly in love with another man, she’s unable to accept the arrangement and runs away. Bound by his duty, her lover Urazi must bring her back to fulfill her responsibility. But as war breaks out, and their planet fights a desperate battle against a villainous despot, Anika and Urazi unite in determination to save their people. With their already lives on the line for disobeying orders, the forbidden love they share becomes the biggest danger of all.

Don’t miss Warrior, the exciting conclusion to the Breeder science fiction romance series.

About The Captain’s Rebel

Land. Power. Influence. Mary O’Malley knows these are the only things that matter in her war-torn country. Determined to win back her ancestral home, she must embark on a journey across the Atlantic disguised as a cabin boy. But her ruse brings her under the control of a dangerous sea captain who demands from her the one thing she will never give—complete and total submission.

Captain Richard Grant runs a tight ship, and he didn’t claw his way up through the ranks of the Royal Navy to be undone by a headstrong Irish girl hell-bent on jeopardizing his mission and his crew. If she insists on dressing like a man, then she can take his punishments. He demands obedience, but his insatiable need for her leads to a complex game of sex, desire, and dominance not even he can control.

Awakened by the passion Grant stirs in her, Mary finds herself falling for the stern captain. But when her false identity leads to rumors of her spying for the French, she must choose between her love for Ireland and the man who commands her body—and her heart.

Excerpt From The Captain’s Rebel

He remained kneeling before me, his fingers drifting up and down my thighs, lingering at the V between my legs. Every brush of his hands was a brand to my skin, and my heart raced, the pages fluttering as I turned them.

With my cross-bow
I shot the ALBATROSS.

I read the line again.

I shot the ALBATROSS.

“Bloody hell…” With a sharp click of my tongue, I lowered the book and stared down at Grant. “He shot that bird? What in the devil’s name did he do that for?”

The Captain bolted to standing and grabbed my hand, leading me to the chair.

I shrugged him off, flashing him an annoyed look. “What did that albatross ever do to him? It seems like a cruel thing to do—”

Grant planted his lips on mine, nearly knocking me over with the force of his hungry kiss. The shock blinded me, and my spine stiffened, my heart jumping into my throat. He placed one heavy hand against the small of my back, and with the other he clasped me behind my neck. Like a bridled horse, I relaxed under his commanding touch, bending against him.

His kiss deepened, and he made a low sound in his throat as his tongue slipped across my lips. I parted them, and he invaded me, the forcefulness making me retreat, back away, but he held me firm. His fingers massaged the back of my neck, and succumbing to the languid movements, I opened my mouth wider, finding a sweet rhythm to the kiss. I forgot my nakedness, that bloody albatross, even my own name. All I knew were his lips, his tongue, the rough gasps of his breath against my cheek.

Today’s guest is Cara Bristol, author of Destiny’s Chance.  This erotic paranormal romance was originally published in 2013, and was just re-released on July 25th.  Cara has stopped by today to tell us about her book and her own experience with the paranormal.

My Real-life Paranormal “Woo-woo” Moment

 By Cara Bristol

I started my writing career a reporter, starting out in the “lifestyle” section of a newspaper. I was in my mid 20s and was hoping to meet my Mr. Right. I was doing a lifestyle piece on the secrets people confess to their hairdressers. While interviewing one hairdresser, she happened to mention that she had psychic abilities. That she “knows” things.

Well, I didn’t believe in psychics, but I had to ask, “What do you know about me?” I didn’t ask or say anything about a man.

She said I would meet a man, and it would have something to do with the number six. She didn’t know what, but that a six was involved.

Okay, fine.

Fast forward a couple of years. The psychic hairdresser is forgotten. My 10th high school reunion was coming up, and I vowed I would have a date! At the time, I had several dates with one guy, but I didn’t feel comfortable asking him to the reunion. For some reason, I didn’t want him there. I mulled over every male friend and acquaintance I had and decided to ask a fireman I knew. He said yes, we started dating, and I ended up marrying him.

The date of my high school reunion was August 6.

Woo-woo.

My latest release, Destiny’s Chance, is an erotic paranormal, not paranormal like shifters and vamps, but woo-woo paranormal. Through a tragic act of fate, Destiny gets the man of her dreams, but there is a high price to pay for that gift. Her psychic sister Laura, a secondary character, is there to help her through it.

Destiny's Chance 600 x 900About Destiny’s Chance

Fate gave her a chance for love. Is she brave enough to accept it?

Destiny Grable has loved Chance Everett for as long as she could remember, but he was never interested in her until a tragic act of fate grants her heart’s desire. Now Chance is all hers—body, mind, and soul. But once they’re together, she discovers he has a kinky side she never knew about. Is she ready for it? Can she handle it? And Chance isn’t the only one with a secret. If he discovers what she’s hiding, will he still want her?

Excerpt from Destiny’s Chance

Silence met him when Chance entered the kitchen where a single light burned. Talking with Roman had done little to alleviate his confusion, worsened it by highlighting the multitude of differences he’d noticed. He opened the refrigerator and stared at the leftovers. She could cook like a dream, so why hadn’t she done it before? Why fake ignorance, incompetence?

He shut the door and downed a glass of water, then switched off the light and strode to the bedroom. Drawn blinds covered the bedroom windows, but moonlight spilled in through the rounder above to spotlight the bed and cast the room in twilight rather than darkness. Her back to him, she formed a slight speed bump on his side. He stripped to his boxers and slid between the sheets.

Tree branches rustled against the house like whispering ghosts. Shape-shifting shadows skittered across the ceiling, assumed form as fire-breathing dragons while the woman beside him wafted an incongruous gentle melody of warmth and scent. Disturbingly pleasant. The hairs on his forearm next to her tingled. She surprised him at every turn, yet there was the oddest familiarity about the change in her—like running into someone you recognized at the last place you would expect to see him.

He inhaled. “Are you awake?” he whispered.

Only the sound of her breathing met his question. He exhaled with relief. Not disappointment. Relief.

“Yes.”

He jumped at the soft sound of her voice. On the ceiling, dragons leaped to full alert.

She rolled to face him but said nothing more.

He turned his head on the pillow to peer at her. In the dimness, bruises smudged her cheeks, but her lips looked soft and kissable. “So tell me again when you learned to cook?”

She shrugged. “It just sort of came to me.”

He appraised her, trying to glean truth. “People don’t decide one day they like to cook, and presto, they know how. It has to be learned.” Either she’d been hiding her ability all along, or something was seriously weird. “Can you play the violin?”

“No.” She creased her forehead. “Why?”

“I wonder what other dormant talents you have,” he said.

She puckered her lips and whistled the theme from a movie about prisoners of war forced to build a bridge for the enemy. “What’s that?”

“The Bridge over the River Kwai.”

“I recognized the tune. I meant why are you whistling?”

“I’m sharing a hidden talent you. Have you ever known me to whistle?”

Despite his conflicted emotions, he smiled. “No, I haven’t.”

Another tune, this one less jaunty, more flowing, haunting, filled the room. Familiar, but he couldn’t place it.

“What’s that one?” He flipped onto his side toward her.

“‘My Heart Will Go On.’ The theme from Titanic.”

“Chick flick.” He dismissed it with a snort.

“The most famous boat-disaster movie ever. Death and destruction. How can that be a chick flick?” Humor glinted in her eyes. Amusement teased the corner of her mouth into a sweet curve.

“All that sappy stuff about love continuing after death? Pure romantic dribble drabble.”

“You don’t think love continues after death?”
