IMG_0821In January, while vacationing in the Phoenix, Arizona area, I had the opportunity to visit the Desert Botanical Garden.  This was actually my second visit to this treasure in the desert.  It is really a very beautiful site and I could visit it over and over again!

Currently, there is a unique exhibit called Bruce Munro: Sonoran Light at Desert Botanical Garden.  The exhibit showcases eight large-scale, light-based installations using an inventive array of materials and hundreds of miles of glowing fiber optics.  Located throughout the Garden, British artist Bruce Munro’s site-specific exhibition reflects his personal interpretation of the Sonoran Desert.  This display is part of a greater Bruce Munro showing called Scottsdale Desert Radiance.

I took a lot of pictures.  I am very much an amateur photographer and night pictures come out more miss than hit.  But here are a few I thought I’d share.  As I viewed the exhibit, in the dark, I found it easy to block out the desert and using my own (SciFi) imagination, found myself on another world.

Night view of Rasan City from space. Most of the southern hemisphere of this world is a desert. The population is concentrated in the coastal area.

Space station Alpha orbits the planet Rasan.

The ride to the space station was a bit nerve-racking for me.  I barely managed to hold on to my camera to snap this picture.

If you can’t make it to Rasan to see these wonderful sights, I recommend the Desert Botantical Gardens in Phoenix, Arizona.  If you are in the Phoenix area between now and May 8th, check out this wonderful, beautiful exhibit.  Go a few hours before sunset so you have a chance to enjoy the Gardens and then stay for the amazing show!
